At East River Organic Farm we raise fresh organic vegetables for our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program. We also distribute extra produce through the Sandusky Farmers Market and the Clarkston Farmers Market www.clarkstonfarmersmarket.org
CSA
Our CSA program started in 2003 with 5 local families, and has been growing steadily since. This year over 25 families will be eating with us! The majority of our members live in or on the way to nearby towns Sandusky, Bad Axe, Caro and Port Sanilac Michigan.
Currently, the price of a member share is $500. Bi-weekly half shares are also available for $300.
Each share will consist of approximately 400 pounds of fresh vegetables. This is generally enough to feed the average family of four, with extra available at peak times for canning and freezing.
Each member will receive a box of fresh produce each week from mid-June though mid-October. Each member will be assigned a pick-up day when they can pick up their share.
UPLAND HILLS
This year we are starting a CSA project at Upland Hills Farm www.uplandhillscsa.blogspot.com to serve the community around the north-eastern Oakland County area with fresh, organic produce and also establish a model for sustainable farming practices and provide a unique learning environment for growing food. I will be working with the Upland Hills community, La Vida Local www.lavidalocalonline.com and the Clarkston Farmers Market www.clarkstonfarmersmarket.org for produce distribution.
